The latest film celebrating the 20th anniversary of Sgt. Frog (Keroro Gunsō) has landed in Japan's top five, opening at #4 at the box office. Titled New Sgt. Frog the Movie: The Earth Is in Mortal Peril as Soon as We Come Back!, the anime feature earned 150,809,200 yen (approximately US$927,900) during its opening weekend, which began June 26.

Following closely at #5 is Soreike! Anpanman: Pantan to Yakusoku no Hoshi, the 37th installment in the long-running Anpanman franchise. This film brought in 123,462,050 yen (about US$759,600) in its first three days.

Meanwhile, Kiyoshi Kurosawa's live-action adaptation of Honobu Yonezawa's historical mystery novel, The Samurai and the Prisoner, slipped from #2 to #3 in its second weekend. The film has now accumulated 614,039,360 yen (approximately US$3.77 million) overall.

In other box office news, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie dropped from #5 to #8 in its tenth weekend, while Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway fell to #9 in its twelfth weekend. Notably, a new Sgt. Frog television anime series, titled Keroro Gunsō ☆, is also scheduled to debut in Fall 2026, featuring a completely new cast.
